Free interactive e-learning course for humanitarian workers:
Coping with traumatic stress

The world’s first interactive e-learning course for humanitarian workers on Coping with Traumatic Stress is now available online for free.

Humanitarian work can be physically and emotionally demanding. Humanitarian workers often struggle to find a healthy balance between the demands of the work and the need to pay some attention to their own well-being. Coping with Traumatic Stress is designed to:

  • Help humanitarian workers understand the three different types of traumatic stress associated with humanitarian work,
  • Recognize signs of stress and burnout,
  • Identify self-care techniques that can help alleviate stress.

The course takes approximately 45 minutes-1 hour to read through. If learners complete the “questions for reflection” sections the course will take longer to finish.

The course can be accessed by visiting the Headington Institute website (www.headington-institute.org), LINGOS website (www.lingos.org) or CARE’s website (www.care.org).

This course has been published by the Headington Institute and is the result of collaboration between the Headington Institute, LINGOS (Learning for International NGOs), and CARE-USA.  The Headington Institute provides psychological and spiritual support to humanitarian workers worldwide. LINGOS works to increase the effectiveness of NGOs by promoting the sharing of learning resources, knowledge, and courseware. CARE-USA is one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations, dedicated to fighting global poverty in the world’s poorest communities.
